There’s something about visiting wineries in the fall – the vineyards glowing with shades of amber and gold, the crisp edge of soft, sunlit afternoons, the promise of a new vintage quietly beginning its journey in oak and steel. Add in the quiet grandeur of distant mountains and you have Breaux Vineyards, one of the most beautiful wineries in Virginia. Heck, even the long driveway up to the tasting room was worth the trip – the vineyards stretch out on both sides for what feels like forever.
The tasting room was just as gorgeous inside as it was outside—bright and elegant, with oak bars, touches of brick, and dining-style tables that gave the whole space a welcoming, homey feel. It also included several nice touches, such as a separate room for tastings so you don’t have to fight your way to the bar to buy a bottle. Off to the side there was a small counter that instantly caught my eye - stacked with boxes of rich, handmade chocolates that smelled just as good as they looked.
Fighting off the urge to indulge in said naughty goodies, we settled down at a nearby table with Breaux Vineyards’ White Flight. We started with the 2022 Madeleine’s Chardonnay—stainless-steel aged, crisp, and touched with pear. It ultimately became my second favorite of the lineup. Next up was what turned out to be Mark’s favorite - the 2022 Chardonnay Reserve, aged in French oak with soft vanilla notes. Mark’s second favorite was the 2024 Viognier—a distinctive wine with gentle oak and delicate floral aromas. The final wine of our flight turned out to be my number one pick – 2022 Jennifer’s Jambalaya, a semi-dry white with whispers of grapefruit and honeysuckle.
Besides its beauty, Breaux Vineyards has so much more to offer—it’s dog- and family-friendly, hosts events and live music, and even has a Cellar Club we would’ve joined in a heartbeat if we didn’t live out of state. They also have a food menu full of Cajun favorites like Po’ boys, Muffuletta, and Jambalaya. Bottom line: Breaux Vineyards is a spot that has it all—wine, food, music, and plenty of reasons to kick back and soak up the scenery.
