Tucked away in the woods of Williamstown lies Autumn Lake, a small outdoorsy winery with a big secret. Tastings are held either inside Autumn Lake’s greenhouse or on the outside porch of their barrel room, making for a fun, informal affair. Camp-side tastings anyone? For just $7, we enjoyed 7 samples of delicious, affordable wines. Fans of sweet wines will love the Lakeside Rose with its hints of melon and berries as well as the Down Home White and Down Home Red.
Snuggling in front of the fire pits with Domino the Winery Dog at our feet and a bottle of Lakeside Rose, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of music provided by Nicki Sbaffoni on the outside stage. (Is there any song that this amazing singer doesn’t know?) In between her sets, I took a stroll with Domino up the inclined path in front of the vineyards. At the apex stood a nearly completed tasting room with large windows that will give visitors stunning views of the lake it overlooks. My photos don’t even begin to give this breathtaking landscape justice.
For now, enjoy this hidden jewel for its wine and friendly, folksy atmosphere but after its tasting room opens, look out! Autumn Lake could very well become THE Next Big Thing on the New Jersey Wine Trail.
