High on a hilltop overlooking the Bohemia River sits the stately tasting room of Chateau Bu-De Vineyard and Winery. It was a searing September afternoon and this dog-friendly Maryland winery was a welcome oasis in our travels. And for Domino the Winery Dog, it was true heaven with plenty of green open spaces and several shaded seating options. We soon settled in under the covered porch area so we could enjoy the free live music and of course, a wine tasting.
Kicking off our tasting was the 2015 Chardonnay, a dry but drinkable white mellowed by its buttery notes. While I enjoyed the Bohemia Manor Farm Sauvignon Blanc 2015 with its lemony notes and the crispness of the Vigonier 2015, the wine that stole my heart that day was the Estate Sweet Blush 2021. Despite its name, it is really a semi-sweet wine with just a hint of cherry whose brightness was a perfect reflection of that sunny day.
After securing a bottle of the Estate Sweet Blush, it was time to check out the food and Chateau Bu-De didn’t let us down – offering up charcuterie boards, bruschetta, veggie dips, and other tasty delights. Domino was a big fan of their cheeses, as were we. But what really made Chateau Bu-De so memorable for us was the contrast between the leafy green vineyards on our left, the sparkling harbor dotted with white sailboats front and center, and the dark tranquility of the woodlands on our right. Truly a view that is beyond description and one that I highly recommend that my readers go and experience for themselves.
